animatic (with comments)

This is my animatic it is of my film sequence of my imaginary film the lonely wood. I chose to create a film sequence rather than a 5 minute film because for me creating a film sequence is easier than trying to fit a full film into a short 5 minute time limit.

my animatic helps to give me and idea what the finished film sequence will look like and give me a good idea of the timings as well as if the different shots are going to work. without the animatic and the storyboard I would most likely have a harder time creating the film since these give me an idea of what it will actually look like.

I don't have any of the music or planned effects or transitions on my animatic although I might add them just to see what it will look like with some effects and transitions. I do not think the timings used in my animatic are final I might change them to see what it looks like if I do change them.

This animatic is in my opinion correct in the timings that I have used and all of the shots work from what I can tell. The shots look ok to me although depending on if they do look like I want them to then I might use different shots during filming. If I add music to it I will see if it works if I do add the music such as the Jaws theme. A benefit of adding in the sound on the animatic is that especially for horror it allows you to find where in the film that the sound works best. there would be no point on adding the Jaws theme in at the start of the sequence as it would not have the effect which I want to achieve.

In creating my animatic it will help me to finalize what my film sequence will look like, I don't know yet if I am going to change the shot timings but I will add sound into my animatic to help give me a proper idea of the shot timings. As without music it is much harder to find this out as the sound can be pivotal to creating the desired effect. The reason for this is that I want to use the Jaws theme in the same way the Jaws films use it and that is to create fear and tension in the audience.

The animatic will give me a good idea of if the different shots are going to work and if I need to make any changes to the planned film. I do not expect the film to work exactly like I want it to but hopefully using the animatic to help I can get it close to what I expect it to look like.

For the flashback in the animatic I will be using a simple image with no colour to make the flashback look like the main character is opening his eyes. I want to make the flashback look like the main character closes his eyes and sort of day dreams remembering why he came here in the first place. This is to show the audience why the main character is out wandering through the woods.

When I do add transitions to my animatic it will help to give me an idea of what the final film will look like and where the individual pieces of the film will be. I might even change the transitions depending on how they look in the animatic. This will help to make me aware of what the final film sequence will look like, as well as the final starting points of the music. although the music could change its starting point when I do add it into the final film.
